Background

Description and distribution  Description and distribution. This community is dominated by perennial, emergent monocots to 4 - 5 meters tall, often forming completely closed canopies. Sites lack significant currents and are permanently flooded with fresh water rather than brackish. About 64 acres occurs in one location at the mouth of the Whitewater River at the Salton Sea, where only 2% of it is currently protected. Associated covered species. The species associated with this community are the Yuma clapper rail and the California black rail.
