Description and distribution
Description and distribution. This community consists of desert
sand accumulations lacking dune formations that are stabilized
by vegetation. Some occur west of Windy Point; the most
extensive occurrence is north of Highway 111 from Windy Point to
approximately Indian Avenue; it occurs in patchy fashion in the
Edom Hill area; and this community also occurs at the east end
of the Indio Hills. This community occurs within a Creosote Bush
Scrub matrix. Of the roughly 1,332 acres in the Plan area, only
22% of this community currently occurs on public land or private
conservation land. Associated covered species. Species that are
associated with this community are: Palm Springs ground
squirrel, Palm Springs pocket mouse, flat-tailed horned lizard,
Le Conte's thrasher, burrowing owl, Coachella giant sand treader
cricket, Coachella Valley Jerusalem cricket, Coachella Valley
grasshopper, and Coachella Valley milkvetch. |
