Stabilized and Partially Stabilized Desert Sand Fields

Background

Description and distribution  Description and distribution. This community consists of desert sand accumulations lacking dune formations that are stabilized by vegetation. Some occur west of Windy Point; the most extensive occurrence is north of Highway 111 from Windy Point to approximately Indian Avenue; it occurs in patchy fashion in the Edom Hill area; and this community also occurs at the east end of the Indio Hills. This community occurs within a Creosote Bush Scrub matrix. Of the roughly 1,332 acres in the Plan area, only 22% of this community currently occurs on public land or private conservation land. Associated covered species. Species that are associated with this community are: Palm Springs ground squirrel, Palm Springs pocket mouse, flat-tailed horned lizard, Le Conte's thrasher, burrowing owl, Coachella giant sand treader cricket, Coachella Valley Jerusalem cricket, Coachella Valley grasshopper, and Coachella Valley milkvetch.
